From the beginning, we took over caring for a horse named Little Black Bird, who had already been a long-time resident on the property and was in her senior years of life. Little Black Bird was instrumental in our transition to rural living. She helped us get comfortable with the rhythms of the land and seasons. She alerted us to danger. She was a loving companion for our family and put up with our developmental growth as caretakers of her and her home.

Little Black Bird died in the fall of 2016 at 38 years of age here on the farm, but her memory remains in our hearts.
